The vineyard of Montesquieu

Cradle of Bordeaux wines

Situated at the gateway to Bordeaux, the land of Montesquieu is a destination dominated by the prestigious Graves and Pessac-Léognan vineyards. Just twenty minutes south of the Gironde capital, discover the region of the appellations that are the origin of Bordeaux wines.

A terroir born at the gates of Bordeaux

Graves wines are born on a characteristic terroir between La Brède and Langon. This wine-growing area of excellence, which extends over 3500 hectares, produces elegant and complex red wines, but also great dry white wines for laying down and sweet white wines.

These blended wines are made from a subtle blend of several grape varieties. Merlot and Cabernets dominate for the reds while the whites are made with Semillon, Sauvignon and Muscadelle.

The red wines benefit from a balanced grape variety. The Cabernet brings aroma and structure and the Merlot brings fragrance and suppleness. When they are young, they develop red fruit aromas. Made with Sémillon, the dry white wines develop notes of wax and honey. Blended with Sauvignon, they bring out citrus fruit essences.

Golden yellow in colour, the Graves Supérieures (sweet white wines) are characterised by a harmony between acidity and softness. They exhale notes of toast, honey and sometimes dried fruit.

A young appellation on very old plots of land

The Pessac-Léognan appellation was created in 1987 on the very old Graves de Bordeaux area. It is within this appellation that the sixteen wines with a longstanding reputation are located, and which have been called "Cru classé de Graves" since 1953.

The red wines dominated by Cabernet-Sauvignon and the white wines made from Sauvignon are all highly elegant and classy. Matured in new oak barrels, they are destined to last a long time, the first sign of a high quality wine.

In thirty years, the "new" Pessac-Léognan vineyard has continued and developed its potential with the replanting of more than a thousand hectares of vines.
